“I can’t believe this… is this for real? Look over there.”
John stared at the water in disbelief. What had started as a quiet holiday in Norway had suddenly turned into a scene straight out of a nightmare.
Massive circles were forming on the surface of the lake.
Guests at the small lakeside hotel froze in shock. Some screamed. Others instinctively reached for their phones, trying to capture whatever horrifying phenomenon was unfolding before their eyes.
No one knew what was causing it.
A Peaceful Morning Turns to Panic
It was just after 9:00 a.m. on a calm Sunday morning in a quiet Norwegian town. The hotel was nearly empty, as it usually was. A few guests sat on the deck enjoying breakfast, taking in the serene view of the fjord.
Then a scream shattered the silence.
John, one of the guests, jumped to his feet. His dog perked up immediately, sensing something was wrong. John rushed toward the water, followed by several other guests.
At first, John searched the opposite side of the lake, trying to locate where the scream had come from. That’s when people behind him started pointing frantically.

After an hour of hiking, Eric stopped to check his map and compass. While he was distracted, Bjorn and Anna wandered off toward a narrow trail leading down to the water. They assumed their father would easily find them.
The path was steep and slippery.
Holding hands to steady each other, the children took a few careful steps — then Bjorn lost his footing. He fell, pulling Anna down with him.
That was the first scream.
Eric heard it instantly and ran toward the sound. But when he reached the same spot, he slipped as well, landing beside his children. They stopped just meters from the water’s edge.
If they had fallen a little further, they would have plunged straight into the lake.
Then Anna screamed again.
Something Was Moving in the Water
Looking down into the lake, Anna froze in terror.
“Daddy… there’s something in the water.”
Eric followed her gaze — and felt his blood turn cold.

A Desperate Rescue Attempt Begins
Back at the hotel, John rushed inside and asked the owner how to reach the other side of the fjord quickly. The answer was simple but troubling — by boat.
The hotel owner had an old boat stored in his shed.
Time was critical.
John called for help, and several guests rushed to assist. Together, they dragged the heavy boat to the water and attached the engine.
But when John tried to start it — nothing happened.
The fuel tank was empty.
With no time to waste, John ran back to the owner, only to learn there was no spare fuel. Thinking fast, John grabbed a tube, rushed to his car, and siphoned fuel from his own tank.
It took longer than he wanted, but finally, the boat was ready.
Fear in the Fjord
John decided to cross alone with his dog, fearing there might be more people in danger. As he sped across the fjord, the strange circles in the water filled him with dread.
When he reached Eric and the children, he shouted,
“Do you speak English? Are you safe?”
Eric nodded. “We’re okay — but we can’t climb back up.”
John told them the only option was to jump into the water so he could pull them into the boat.
Anna panicked.
“Daddy… there’s a big monster in the water. I can’t jump.”
Eric looked again — and this time, he saw it too.
Something enormous moved beneath them.
With no other choice, Eric waited for the creature to move away, threw his bag into the boat, grabbed both children, and jumped.

Halfway back, John’s dog began barking uncontrollably.
Then the boat shook.
A loud bang echoed across the water as the vessel lifted slightly.
Everyone screamed.
John looked over the side — and locked eyes with the creature beneath them.
It was a whale.
The massive animal had struck the boat’s propeller, injuring itself badly. The engine died instantly.
They were stranded.
Bjorn and Anna cried in fear as the wounded whale surfaced again nearby.
John and Eric grabbed the oars and began rowing toward the hotel, praying the whale would not strike again.
A Decision That Changed Everything
Once safely back on shore, John couldn’t stop thinking about the whale.
It didn’t belong there.
Eric confirmed it — whales rarely ventured this far inland, and when they did, they almost never survived.
John refused to let that happen.

John stayed by the lake the entire time.
A week later, boats surrounded the whale, guiding it carefully toward the sea. Protective barriers were placed around propellers to prevent further injuries.
Slowly, steadily, the whale followed.
After a few tense hours, the rescue was complete.
The whale returned to the open ocean.
